Our Story
Yoga sessions designed for neurodivergent adults can be tailored to address their unique needs and promote physical and social skills.
Here’s a description of such sessions:
1. Inclusive Environment: The sessions create an inclusive and non-judgmental space where participants of all abilities are welcome. This helps build a sense of belonging and acceptance.
2. Adapted Asanas: Yoga poses are modified to accommodate various physical abilities and sensitivities. Props like blocks and straps may be used to assist with poses, making them accessible to all.
3. Mindfulness and Self-Regulation: Incorporating mindfulness practices can help individuals with neurodivergence develop self-regulation skills. Deep breathing exercises and meditation can be useful in this regard.
4. Sensory Integration: Some neurodivergent individuals have sensory sensitivities. Yoga sessions can incorporate sensory integration techniques to help participants become more comfortable with various sensations.
5. Social Interaction: Group activities and partner poses can encourage social interaction and communication. These activities can be structured to promote collaboration and teamwork.
6. Visual Schedules: Visual schedules or cues can be used to help participants understand the structure of the session and what to expect, reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of control.
7. Clear Communication: Instructors should use clear and concise language to provide instructions and support, ensuring that everyone can follow along.
8. Progressive Goals: Encourage participants to set and work towards personal goals, whether physical or social, to foster a sense of achievement and motivation.
9. Feedback and Reflection: Regular opportunities for feedback and reflection can help participants express their needs and preferences, contributing to a more inclusive and adaptive program.
10. Community Building: Organize social events or gatherings outside of regular sessions to further develop social connections and a sense of community.
Yoga for neurodivergent adults can offer physical benefits like improved flexibility and strength while also providing a supportive environment for social skill development and enhanced overall well-being.
